Diversity at UVigo
The Universidade de Vigo includes among its purposes the elimination of inequalities for reasons of sexual orientation, sex, age, disability, race, ethnicity, class, or religion, in order to promote and guarantee the quality of an inclusive education.
With this aim, the Diversity Unit is responsible for designing, coordinating, and developing programmes and policies for inclusion and non-discrimination, training and raising awareness in the university community in subjects related to respect for diversity.
Contextual and operational framework
The 2021-2026 Strategic Plan of the Universidade de Vigo highlights its commitment to advancing synergies between diverse identities to promote and drive intellectual growth and social responsibility of the welfare state and quality of life demanded by the citizens of our time.
Analysis of this conceptual plan leads to the development and implementation of measures involving the entire university community to ensure the inclusion of fundamental human rights within the institution.
The Diversity Unit is a service provided by the Universidade of Vigo that is involved in the prevention, care, and protection of people belonging to socially vulnerable groups (LGTBIQA+, people with disabilities, immigrants, etc.) in their incorporation, retention, and promotion within university life.
The key idea behind this unit is to achieve full inclusion by establishing a policy and services for welcoming, informing, and accompanying students in line with the university's objectives. It also seeks to educate and raise awareness among the university community in order to promote the full participation of all people in the existing educational, labour, and social reality.
The Universities for Diversity Network (known as RUD)
The Universidade de Vigo participates in the Universities for Diversity Network (RUD), the body that brings together and represents all Spanish universities in matters of sexual and gender diversity (sexual orientation, physical and emotional diversity, gender identity and gender expression) and diversity based on origin, culture, beliefs and other affinities.
