Public transportation
Vigo
If you are going to live in Vigo you can use your letter of acceptance to request your public transport card.
From applying for the card to receiving it at the address you have specified can take around 2-3 weeks, so it is convenient to request it before your arrival.
Ourense
If your destination city is Ourense, you must click on the following link to get your card.
Regarding transportation from outside the city centres, there are bus or train connections with the nearby cities. You can check all the information by clicking on these links:

Internet, email, and IT services
University email account
After the registration or acceptance procedure an email account (username) associated with your researcher profile is generated and sent to you before your arrival. It ends in @uvigo.gal. This will be your official e-mail address for University contacts and allows you to identificate and access a variety of information systems and services available for the University community members, such as the Eduroam wireless network.

Internet and wireless access
Provided you have a Universidade de Vigo email address, you can access our Wireless Campus Network in all campuses. UVigo is part of the Eduroam Wireless Network, which can be used by researchers as a secure, worldwide wireless access service for the international research and education community.

Computing facilities and online services and resources
The Online Secretary (aka Secretaría or Secretaría virtual) is the gateway to UVigo's digital services. It allows you to carry out online some academic and administrative procedures and have access to additional applications and utilities. Once you have your University username and password you will be able to access personalised content on your device as well as get the latest University news.
ICT Service & Online Secretary can help you to use electronic procedures, WiFi & VPN connections, software downloads, etc.

Electronic Office
By using the Electronic Office, any citizen or member of the university community can carry out formalities and submit documentation in the register of the Universidade de Vigo telematically. This offers a new way of attention to the citizen enjoying an electronic registration 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, more easily & quickly and securely.
Digital signature certificate issued by The Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre (Royal Spanish Mint) is required. See here how to get it.
University Smart Card (TUI)
Upon arrival at the Universidade de Vigo you, provided with his/her ID or Passport, will collect your university card at the headquarters of the issuing entity that are on campus (Ourense, Pontevedra or Vigo).This card will allow you to access the university essential services (library, wifi, email account).
University App
With the UVigo app, you can access your UVigo University Smart Card (TUI) on your mobile phone and receive notifications about university news (grants, calls, courses, etc.). Additionally, if you are a doctoral student, you can check your academic record and communicate with your study mates and tutors.

The University Library offers a wide range of information resources, spaces, and services to support learning, teaching, and research activities. It is organized into 11 service points across the campuses of Vigo, Pontevedra, and Ourense.

Dining Halls
On the three campuses we have cafeterias and restaurants where you can have a break or make your meals at affordable prices.
Sports and Well-being
Sports
You can find sports venues to develop your favourite physical activity in each of our campuses: fitness, swimming, tennis, basketball, chess, table tennis… In addition, the university is collaborating with a wide range of sports centres.
You may use the sports facilities under the same conditions as the university community.
Healthcare Insurance
As a visiting researcher at the UVigo, you will need health insurance. You will have to give credit to having insurance before starting at our university.
- If you come from a country of the European Union, you can prove having health insurance with the European Health Card (EHC). It is highly recommendable that, together with your EHC, you hire an additional health insurance with any company, including accidents, international sanitary transfer, travelling assistance, and repatriation in case of accident or severe illnesses.
- If you come from a country outside the European Union, you will need to hire an international private insurance. The Universidade de Vigo is one of the Spanish universities adhered to Oncampus, a company specialized in insurance for the university community. On this link you can check their conditions and, if you were interested in it, you could hire the insurance online and print the written proof.
Support to disabled researchers
If you have a disability or a chronic disease, you can get in touch with the Unit of Attention to Students with Special Needs on diversidade@uvigo.gal. Please, make sure you are specific about your needs so measures can be taken in order to provide you with the most suitable solution.
Language courses
UVigo offers face-to-face, blended, and online Spanish courses (from beginner to advanced levels) through the Language Centre (Centro de Linguas) at reduced prices. Visit the Centro de Linguas website for more information.
Free introductory courses in Galician are also offered through the Linguistic Normalisation Area (only available in Spanish and Galician). Visit the Linguistic Normalisation Area website for more information.
Other languages such as English, French, German, Chinese, Italian, Persian, and Japanese are also taught at the Centro de Linguas.
UVigo Culture
UVigo is about learning, culture, relationships, but also leisure and fun. We offer workshops, courses, seminars, and conferences related to theatre, cinema, literature, and art, with the aim of promoting the creation of collaborative networks and strengthening the cultural fabric. Our cultural policy is innovative and in tune with the times, seeking a diverse program that encompasses a variety of artistic expressions in a two-way direction towards the university community and society.
