Ana received a predoctoral fellowship funded by the Xunta de Galicia and completed a predoctoral stay at the "Lombardy Cancer Center" at Georgetown University (Washington, D.C., USA). She earned her International Ph.D. in Biology with Honors from the University of Santiago de Compostela (2019) in the fields of Proteomics, Microbiology, and Food Safety. Her research focused on the identification and characterization of microbial strains isolated from contaminated dairy products using classical culture-based methods and molecular approaches such as genomics and proteomics. From 2020 to 2021, she worked as a researcher at CYTMA (Center for Advanced Technology for Research in the Marine and Food Industry in Vigo, ANFACO-CECOPESCA) focused on the characterization of functional peptides derived from food matrices such as microalgae and prebiotics using proteomics. Recently, as a postdoctoral researcher (2022-2024) (through a Margarita Salas requalification fellowship funded by European funds via the Spanish Ministry of Universities), she completed a 2-year postdoctoral stay at the IIM-CSIC (Marine Research Institute-CSIC), studing the gastrointestinal microbiome in a fish-allergic mouse model. Additionally, she worked on the identification and characterization of biological risks, such as pathogenic bacteria and fish spoilage bacteria, using mass proteomics. She has also completed international postdoctoral stays at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), where she contributed to the development of nanosensors. Currently, Dr. Ana González Abril works at the University of Vigo as an assistant professor in the field of Microbiology.
